For a European private bank serving high-net-worth clients across six countries, the next wave of client value, from AI-driven advisory to personalised digital services, will be built on a foundation of trusted, well governed data. Recognizing this, Quintet has rolled out Collibra as the backbone of its data governance framework, partnering with Collibra and its business partner Murdio. In less than eighteen months, the bank has built the data foundation that makes both Data Products and AI possible, made significant progress in its data management capabilities measured against the EDM Council’s DCAM framework, and strengthened its compliance with BCBS 239 Principles.

Goal
A discipline, not a project
“Data governance is not a one time program. It is a discipline that has to be embedded in the culture of the bank and made part of business as usual. That is the discipline we are building at Quintet, together with Collibra and Murdio,” said Christophe Marchetti, Group Chief Data & Analytics Officer at European private bank Quintet.
Quintet Private Bank is a pan European private banking and wealth management group headquartered in Luxembourg, operating in more than 30 cities across six countries. Founded in 1949, Quintet serves high net worth individuals, family offices, foundations and institutional clients across the EU and the UK, with well established local brands including Merck Finck (Germany), InsingerGilissen (Netherlands), Brown Shipley (UK) and Puilaetco (Belgium). Total client assets exceed €100 billion.
Compliance, value and AI
BCBS 239 reinforced the need for stronger data control. The deeper driver, however, was readiness for the next wave of value in private banking: AI-driven advisory, personalized digital services and faster product onboarding all depend on data that can be trusted at the point of decision. In private banking, AI cannot be deployed in front of high-net-worth clients on a fragile data foundation. Without a solid data foundation, neither Data Products nor AI can be delivered safely or at scale.
“If we want to leverage AI internally and put AI in front of our clients, the data behind every model and every decision has to be governed, traceable and explainable. You cannot bolt that on later,” said Christophe. “That is why data governance at Quintet is treated as a Group Executive Committee and board level priority.”
Consistent with a group managing separate business units across Europe, data was siloed across different systems and tools. It was difficult to understand where data came from, who owned it, and what its quality and lineage looked like. Audit and reporting were slow, manual processes.
Quintet selected Collibra as the foundation, and brought in Christophe Marchetti as Group Chief Data & Analytics Officer, both to lead the program and to build the Group Data & Analytics Office that would carry it forward. The transformation was driven from the top, with strong and visible sponsorship from Quintet’s Group Executive Committee, signalling that data is a strategic priority at the highest level of the bank.
Strategy
Partnership and collaboration
Christophe built a high performing team combining Quintet staff with world class external expertise. Murdio, a highly certified Collibra partner, contributed four Collibra experts under the leadership of Karol Gabarkiewicz, co-owner of the company. Collibra Professional Services, anchored by Bernard Depuydt, provided hands-on expertise and direct access to the latest innovations and proven best practices.
Quintet’s collaboration with Collibra goes well beyond a standard customer relationship. The Data & Analytics Office is deeply involved in Collibra’s Private Beta program, testing new capabilities ahead of general availability and feeding improvement ideas back to Collibra’s product teams. This two way partnership means Quintet helps shape the platform it relies on, while gaining early visibility into innovations that accelerate its roadmap.
Murdio worked side by side with Quintet on the implementation and rollout of Collibra across the bank, supporting stakeholder onboarding, training and auditing activities.
Operating as one team, Murdio brought deep platform expertise and proven, authorized best practices from its in-house Framework to accelerate delivery, and continues to partner with Quintet on ongoing innovation and continuous improvement.
Anchored in global standards
Quintet’s approach is anchored in globally recognized standards: DAMA-DMBOK, the EDM Council’s DCAM, and BCBS 239. Together they give the bank a board-credible foundation, benchmarked against industry best practice, and a common language with regulators, auditors and peers. Built on these foundations, Quintet has put in place a coherent set of governance, quality and management frameworks, brought to life through Collibra.
Solution
Collibra: The foundation for data governance excellence
At the heart of the transformation is a comprehensive Collibra deployment: Business Glossary, Data Catalog, Data Marketplace, Data Lineage and Data Quality & Observability are all live, while Proofs of Concepts are already underway for Collibra AI Governance, Collibra Data Access and Collibra Unstructured Data.
Collibra is far more than a business glossary. It is the central platform that allows Quintet to govern data end to end in an automated way. Cataloging, lineage capture, quality monitoring, issue management and governance workflows are all automated. Critical Data Elements are monitored continuously, with rules flagging issues for resolution through governed workflows. Automated end to end lineage traces data from source systems through to regulatory reports, giving Quintet full transparency over every regulatory and management figure.
With Collibra at the center, the platform integrates seamlessly into Quintet’s broader data ecosystem. Crucially, the same discipline that protects traditional data assets is now being extended to AI through the Collibra AI Governance PoC, giving Quintet the controls, transparency and explainability needed to deploy AI in front of high-net-worth clients with confidence.
“One of the key benefits of working with Murdio and Collibra has been functioning as a single team and how we have inspired each other to do better,” commented Christophe. “We have shared professionalism, innovation and passion to make deployment of Collibra, and the wider data governance strategy at Quintet, a success.”
Results
Building a lasting data governance capability
In less than eighteen months, Quintet has built a data foundation that supports the bank’s strategic priorities: stronger compliance with BCBS 239 Principles, significant progress in its data management capabilities against the EDM Council’s DCAM framework, and a single, governed view of data that now informs risk, finance, regulatory reporting and the next wave of Data Products and AI use cases for clients.
This foundation has been built with the business, not just for it. From the start, Quintet engaged stakeholders across the bank, equipping data owners, stewards and custodians to take ownership of their data. The result is a culture in which data governance is a shared responsibility embraced across the organization, rather than a mandate imposed by a central team.
Collibra has also enabled a federated governance model: a central Data & Analytics Office, spanning data governance, data quality, data architecture and business analytics, sets the standards, taxonomies and quality thresholds, while data owners and stewards inside each local brand are accountable for execution. Central oversight with local agility balances group consistency with the needs of each market.
Most importantly, data governance at Quintet is no longer a one time initiative. Data governance is now embedded in management routines, ensuring the discipline endures and continues to deliver value year after year.
The real test of data governance is not what it lets you audit, but what it lets you build next. With Collibra and Murdio, we have built the foundation that lets Quintet move with confidence on AI for our clients.
