Introducing Collibra Data Access: Connect the right users to the right data faster

At most organizations, getting data to the people who need it is still slow and manual: someone files a request, a team reviews it, access is granted, and an audit trails behind. That model assumes a human is on the other end — an assumption that no longer holds. AI agents now query databases, make decisions on their own, and run multi-step workflows at a speed and scale that ticket-based, human-centric controls were never built to handle.

What’s new: Collibra Data Access

We're excited to announce that Collibra Data Access is now generally available, a new addition to the Collibra Platform built to reshape how organizations manage and consume data. This release tackles the "last mile" of the data journey, making secure, self-service access to data a reality.

Collibra Data Access brings enterprise-grade data protection and policy enforcement directly into the Collibra Platform, deepening our ability to help organizations govern, secure and provision access consistently across sources — all on a unified metadata foundation.

Now teams can centralize access controls, mask sensitive data and enforce governance consistently, from a single interface.

The initial release connects to leading data platforms, including Snowflake, Databricks and BigQuery, alongside identity providers such as Okta and Microsoft Entra ID. By unifying these capabilities, Collibra Data Access removes the need to enforce policy by hand across multiple systems — so data consumers get the right data faster, while compliance stays intact and risk stays low.

How the Data Access helps

For years, data teams have had to manage access across siloed data and identity systems using spreadsheets, tickets and CI/CD pipelines — approaches that are neither scalable nor user-friendly. The result is heavy manual workloads, more room for error and slower data delivery. For data consumers, that translates into delayed analytics, stalled AI initiatives and missed opportunities to act.

Collibra Data Access changes the equation by centralizing access management and policy enforcement in one place, giving teams a single interface to govern entitlements, permissions and masking. By streamlining this work, it reduces risk, frees up teams and helps data consumers reach secure, trusted data quickly.

Problems it solves

  • Slow, siloed provisioning: Instead of waiting days for the data they need, users get faster delivery because access provisioning is centralized across platforms.
  • Fragmented access controls: Controls scattered across systems create risk. Managing them all in one interface — with a clear audit trail — closes that gap.
  • Duplicate work for data owners: Rather than building multiple views for different user groups, teams can use masking to give the right users the right access while automatically protecting sensitive data, eliminating redundant views.
  • Inconsistent policies across platforms: Manually applied rules invite mistakes. Collibra enforces access policies uniformly across multiple cloud data platforms.

How Collibra Data Access works

Collibra Data Access connects securely to your data environment using an Edge connector and agent, leveraging TLS 1.3 encryption and a polling model to safely integrate with your data platforms. This architecture enables integration with Snowflake, Databricks and BigQuery, while synchronizing with identity management systems such as Microsoft Entra ID and Okta.

Once connected, data owners can define and manage access controls directly within Collibra, applying them at the database, schema or table level. This helps reduce manual coordination across multiple platforms and gives teams better visibility into who has access to sensitive data.

To protect sensitive information, column masking can be applied within Collibra based on user roles, allowing data to be shared safely with multiple users while limiting exposure of confidential information.

Why you should be excited

Collibra Data Access delivers tangible benefits to the people across the data ecosystem who keep it running securely and efficiently:

  • Data analysts get to the data they need without waiting on tickets or workarounds — secure, self-service access means less time chasing permissions and more time delivering insight.
  • CIOs and CDAOs can pursue safer AI, GenAI and data democratization initiatives across the enterprise — accelerating insight and innovation while keeping governance and compliance intact.

Use cases

  • Centralize access governance across platforms: Manage controls for Snowflake, Databricks and BigQuery in one place, improving oversight and reducing manual overhead.
  • Protect sensitive data: Apply data masking to mitigate risk and safeguard privacy while still supporting analytics that need sensitive data, so users see only what they're authorized to view.
  • Accelerate governed access for AI initiatives and agents: With controls managed centrally, teams can get data to qualified users faster, clearing the delays caused by fragmented controls so analytics and AI workloads move without friction.

The bottom line: enable self-service data access, with the security controls and visibility that let teams work with trusted data quickly and safely.
