Introducing Collibra Data Access: Connect the right users to the right data faster
Data is only valuable if the right people can actually use it, yet access bottlenecks often slow analytics, AI initiatives and critical business decisions. Even organizations with advanced AI maturity still struggle with data availability. In fact, Gartner reports that nearly half face this challenge. And in a recent Deloitte survey, 92% of data consumers at banks stated that the data they need is often unavailable or takes too long to be made available, highlighting access as a persistent barrier to scaling value.
As organizations work to democratize data, they must also ensure sensitive information is shared securely and in line with expanding regulations such as GDPR, NIS2 and the EU Data Act.
Traditional identity and access management tools were built for managing access to applications rather than granular data security, leaving teams to rely on slow, manual, ticket-based processes that don’t scale. To drive real ROI, data access must match the pace of the business, supporting fast, governed access for a rapidly expanding population of human users and AI agents.
What’s new: Collibra Data Access
We’re excited to introduce Collibra Data Access (preview 2026.04), a new addition to the Collibra Platform designed to transform how organizations manage and consume data. This release focuses on the “last mile” of the data journey, further enabling secure, self‑service access to data.
Leveraging Collibra’s recent acquisition of Raito, a leading data access governance platform, Collibra Data Access brings enhanced, enterprise‑grade data protection and policy enforcement into the Collibra Platform. This integration deepens Collibra’s ability to help organizations govern, secure and provision data access consistently across sources while maintaining a unified metadata foundation.
Organizations can now centralize access controls, mask sensitive data and enforce governance consistently, all from a single interface.
The initial release supports connections to leading data platforms, including Snowflake, Databricks and BigQuery, as well as identity providers like Okta and Microsoft Entra ID. By unifying these capabilities, Collibra Data Access eliminates the need for manual enforcement across multiple systems, helping data consumers get the right data faster, while ensuring compliance and minimizing risk.
How Collibra Data Access helps
Historically, data teams have struggled to manage access across siloed data and identity systems and manual workflows, relying on spreadsheets, tickets and CI/CD pipelines that are neither scalable nor user-friendly. This creates heavy workloads, increases the risk of errors and slows the delivery of data. For data consumers, these bottlenecks mean delays in analytics, AI initiatives and other data-driven actions.
Collibra Data Access addresses these challenges by centralizing access management and the enforcement of policies, providing a single interface for governing access entitlements, permissions and masking. By streamlining these processes, it reduces risk, frees up teams and helps ensure data consumers get secure, trusted access quickly.
Collibra Data Access helps solve:
- Slow and siloed access provisioning: Users often wait days to get the data they need, and Collibra Data Access speeds delivery by centralizing access provisioning across platforms
- Fragmented access controls: Access controls scattered across systems create risk, which is resolved by managing all controls in a single interface with a clear audit trail
- Duplicate work for data owners: Teams often create multiple views for different user groups, but masking lets them provide access to the right users while protecting sensitive data automatically, eliminating the need for duplicate views
- Inconsistent policies across platforms: Manually applied rules increase risk, and Collibra enforces access policies universally across multiple cloud data platforms
How Collibra Data Access works
Collibra Data Access connects securely to your data environment using an Edge connector and agent, leveraging TLS 1.3 encryption and a polling model to safely integrate with your data platforms. This architecture enables integration with Snowflake, Databricks and BigQuery, while synchronizing with identity management systems such as Microsoft Entra ID and Okta.
Once connected, data owners can define and manage access controls directly within Collibra, applying them at the database, schema or table level. This helps reduce manual coordination across multiple platforms and gives teams better visibility into who has access to sensitive data.
To protect sensitive information, column masking can be applied within Collibra based on user roles, allowing data to be shared safely with multiple users while limiting exposure of confidential information.
Save time and maintain oversight by centralizing access controls into a single interface, replacing fragmented manual coordination with a clear audit trail
Why you should be excited
Collibra Data Access delivers specific, tangible benefits to key roles across the data ecosystem, empowering them to work more efficiently and securely. Key roles include:
- Data governance leads: Gain a centralized interface to manage access, apply masking and reduce manual effort across platforms
- Data architects: Apply consistent access controls across Snowflake, Databricks and BigQuery, with flexibility to model data access based on business needs – while seamlessly integrating into existing architecture and workflows
- Data platform leads / Data engineering managers: Reduce support burden by shifting access responsibilities to business and data owners, helping teams focus on higher-value work
- CDAO / CDO: Enable safer AI, GenAI, and data democratization initiatives, accelerating insights and innovation while maintaining compliance
Data Access helps these personas:
- Centralize access governance across platforms: Teams can manage access controls for Snowflake, Databricks and BigQuery in one place, improving oversight and reducing manual overhead
- Protect sensitive data: By applying data masking, organizations mitigate risk and protect privacy while supporting analytics that require sensitive data, helping to ensure users see only what they’re authorized to view
- Accelerate governed access for analytics and AI: Teams managing access controls centrally can make data accessible faster to qualified users, reducing delays caused by fragmented controls and helping analytics and AI workloads proceed without unnecessary friction
Key takeaways
Collibra Data Access gives data owners a single interface to manage access controls and masking across multiple data sources, helping simplify compliance and protect sensitive information. By centralizing governance and providing flexible data modeling, it reduces friction for data consumers, allowing authorized teams to work with data more efficiently. This approach supports faster insights and safer analytics, while giving organizations better visibility and control over who can access what data.
