Collibra AI agent registry: Governing autonomous AI agents

AI agents are emerging as the next frontier in enterprise AI, automating service interactions, business processes and content creation. Unlike traditional models, agents act autonomously, often making decisions on behalf of the enterprise without human intervention. This new autonomy creates immense opportunity but also introduces unprecedented risk. PwC reports that 79% of companies in 2025 are already adopting AI agents in their business function, underscoring how quickly this new class of technology is scaling. Without oversight, agentic AI can become a liability instead of a driver of innovation.

What's new: AI agent registry

We’re proud to announce the general availability of Collibra AI agent registry, a centralized capability to register, monitor and govern AI agents across their lifecycle.

The agent registry serves as a single system of record for autonomous AI systems, regardless of where they’re developed or deployed. It associates each agent with its business context, designated owner, lifecycle stage and policy alignment, eliminating blind spots and laying the groundwork for reliable, traceable and compliant use of AI agents in the enterprise.

By extending Collibra’s AI Governance framework, the agent registry helps organizations bring transparency, accountability and trust to the fast-growing landscape of agentic AI.

How AI agent registry helps

AI agents are powerful but challenging to manage without a clear structure. Whether sourced from vendors or developed in-house, they are often opaque, untracked and loosely tied to business use cases. This lack of oversight creates compliance risks, fragmented accountability and inefficiencies, such as:

  • No centralized visibility or inventory of AI agents
  • No connection between AI agents and models
  • Poor linkage between agents and business use cases
  • Lack of lifecycle governance, from design to retirement
  • Limited traceability and auditability for compliance
  • Risk of shadow agents operating without ownership or oversight

How AI agent registry works

Collibra AI agent registry operates as a governed registry that tracks agent metadata, lineage and usage across their lifecycle. It ensures that every AI agent is documented, owned and aligned with enterprise policies.

Core capabilities include:

  • Centralized registration: Create a single inventory of all agents, whether internally developed or third-party
  • Lifecycle tracking: Monitor each agent’s progress across ideation, development, validation, deployment and retirement
  • Policy alignment: Map policies directly to each lifecycle stage, ensuring compliance checks (e.g., security sign-off, ethical review, audit validation) are embedded
  • Contextual lineage: Connect agents to their business use cases, datasets, KPIs and risk assessments to ensure transparency

The agent registry is designed to be tool-agnostic, with initial integration in place for Azure AI Foundry. Additional integrations with other leading platforms will follow, ensuring comprehensive coverage and alignment with enterprise needs.

Why you should be excited

The AI agent registry provides significant value to various stakeholders, including:

  • AI Engineers: Maintain a clear, governed record of agents across environments
  • Risk and Compliance: Ensure traceability, accountability, and auditability for autonomous systems
  • Business Leaders: Confidently scale agentic AI initiatives while minimizing regulatory and operational risks
  • Product Owners: Link agents to business use cases and outcomes, ensuring alignment with organizational goals

Key use cases

In addition to all the personas AI agent registry helps, it also supports various industries from financial services, to healthcare to retail:

  • A financial services firm registers all customer-service chat agents, ensuring alignment with compliance policies and ownership structures
  • A healthcare provider documents agents that assist in patient triage, embedding traceability and policy checks for regulated environments
  • A retail enterprise tracks agents handling dynamic pricing recommendations, ensuring business owners are accountable for oversight
