Introducing The Data Download™

Brand

I am excited to announce the launch of The Data Download, Collibra’s first ever podcast series. When the marketing team first came to me with this idea, I was thrilled to be part of the project, but I never imagined I would be this passionate about my role as podcast host.

I had never hosted a podcast before and I really did not know what to expect. After months of planning, we finally recorded our first episode with Anna Hannem at Scotiabank. Although I was nervous at first, I quickly realized that these conversations with my peers are natural, insightful, and engaging. I learned so much from Anna in just one hour of recording. And this was only the beginning…

Welcome to The Data Download™

The Data Download™ is a five part podcast series featuring leaders in the data space from companies like Scotiabank, Fidelity, and Adobe, along with partners such as PwC and Accenture. In these episodes we unpack the complexity of topics like data and ethics, data mesh, building a data governance program, ESG, and AI/ML.

Don’t just talk the talk with Anna Hannem of Scotiabank

In our first episode on the topic of data and ethics, Anna Hannem walked me through her process of implementing a data and ethics program at Scotiabank. She discussed the importance of instilling data ethos principles into the company’s culture, processes, and procedures to educate within the organization and the industry as a whole. She also discussed the importance of data ethics and answered the question of “why now?”

“But in fact, data isn’t black and white, right? It’s how we collect it, where we collect it from, and how we’re intending to use it.”

– Anna Hannem, the director of Data Ethics & Use at Scotiabank

But while I love to hear about data processes and best practices, it’s additionally interesting to learn about the people behind the processes as well, and how those dots connect to the topic. Anna shared with me that she received her undergraduate degree in behavioral psychology, which has helped shape her career in data and ethics. Because of her desire to encourage more people to get into the data and ethics space, Scotiabank is partnering with universities to help them build out programs on data ethics. Data ethics is an important, albeit new, field so I found the path Anna described super fascinating as it offers a glimpse into how it might mature in the future.

Why you should listen to The Data Download™

I could give you a million reasons as to why you should listen to The Data Download, but I will keep it brief. Here are the top two reasons you should tune in:

1. Hear from industry professionals on the hottest topics

As a data professional myself, I read a lot about the data space. I also hear a lot about the trends from customers, prospects, and peers. So when we sat down and started to brainstorm the topics for this series, we knew we had to highlight data and ethics, data mesh, AI/ML, ESG, and building a data governance program. These topics are complex and dynamic and make for great conversations. Every episode is different and brings a new take on the topic. Hearing from both our customers and partners, allows listeners to get a 360 view of these topics. Our guests share their best practices, their challenges and mistakes, and also predict the future within their industry.

2. Learn about what we are doing at Collibra and learn more about our Data Office

This five part podcast series also includes five bonus episodes featuring our very own Collibrians. These episodes dive deeper into the topics and focus on how Collibra is tackling these issues. We hear from data scientists, data intelligence experts, product marketers, DEI and Sustainability leaders, and our Co-Founder Stijn Christiaens. I love recording these episodes because it gives me the opportunity to learn about what my peers are doing across the organization. It also gives me a platform to talk about all the great things we are doing in our own data office and share our best practices.
