New York, March 28, 2018 – Collibra, the leader in enterprise data governance and catalog software, has been recognized by Forrester Research in a new report entitled, “Now Tech: Machine Learning Data Catalogs, Q1 2018.” The report identified three segments of Machine Learning Data Catalogs (MLDCs) based on functionality and role affinity, including point solutions, embedded data management and platform solutions.
According to the new Forrester report, chief data officers and analysts require context to understand their data. “Traditionally, data governance teams removed data context to make data ubiquitous across all analytic and operational needs. They manually cataloged data-at-rest in glossaries kept physically separate from the data -- The result? Data activation slowed to a crawl.”
The Forrester report states a new class of data governance and metadata management solutions — machine learning data catalogs (MLDCs) — has emerged to maintain data’s context fidelity and keep it embedded in data systems for fast, adaptive data activation. Forrester defines an MLDC as: a machine-learning-powered metadata catalog and policy processing engine that profiles, defines, and maintains semantic, logical, and physical models and traits of data within a data fabric for activation within systems of insights.
“For organizations to gain competitive advantage in today’s business world, they need to be able to easily find, understand and trust their data to derive value,” said Felix Van de Maele, Collibra co-founder and CEO. “The Collibra data governance and catalog solution helps organizations oversee enterprise-wide policies, business rules, and data assets while eliminating the pain point of data scientists and business analysts conducting time-intensive searches for data. Collibra Catalog enables data citizens to work more quickly and strategically to solve critical business challenges by automatically interpreting and optimizing the use of data from disparate sources, especially from newer technologies like IoT and AI.”
Collibra is referenced in the Forrester report as a point solution that offers high functionality within a big data fabric. Point solutions are categorized as:
- Best-of-breed for working with data and policies across various data consumption patterns.
- Robust capabilities allow data scientists and analysts to find, collaborate on, and contribute data, policies, and sources.
- Intuitive GUIs and machine learning help users search and understand data. They support upstream data aggregation, hygiene, preparation, and modeling.
The governance and data catalog capabilities recognized by Forrester are available as part of the Collibra Data Governance Center 5.3. Forrester previously named Collibra a leader in The Forrester Wave™: Data Governance Stewardship And Discovery Providers, Q2 2017.*Now Tech: Machine Learning Data Catalogs, Q1 2018 (by Michele Goetz) was published on March 27, 2018.
