Collibra Announces Winners of the First Annual Collibra Excellence Awards

Global Leaders in the Financial Services, Technology, Utilities, Manufacturing Industries Recognized for their Achievements in Strategic Data Governance to Drive Business Advantage

New York, May 1, 2018 – Leading global organizations are increasingly adopting data governance to help them better find, understand and trust data to drive competitive advantage. Today, Collibra, the leader in enterprise data governance and catalog software, announced the winners of its first annual Collibra Excellence Awards. This year’s winners were BNP Paribas Fortis (Leader category) and Dell Technologies/Dell HR (Program category). Honorable Mentions were awarded to Philip Morris International (Leader category) and Fifth Third Bank (in the Program category). Arizona Public Service Electric Company (APS) was recognized as an Emerging Leader. The winners were announced during the third annual Collibra Data Citizens conference, April 30-May 2.

The Collibra Excellence Awards honor teams and individuals within organizations that excel in driving change around data strategy, have led data implementations and/or have helped bring about innovation in their business. This year’s winners and honorable mentions hailed from industries including financial services, technology, utilities, and manufacturing.

“It’s clear from the many impressive applications we received for this award that more organizations are adopting strategies to help them leverage data as an enterprise asset for competitive advantage,” said Felix Van de Maele, co-founder and CEO of Collibra. “Congratulations to this year’s Collibra Excellence winners, whose achievements in data governance stood out among a strong group of nominees. The Collibra Data Governance and Catalog products help these and other data governance leaders eliminate data silos and empower them to make the right critical decisions for their companies.”

More on the 2018 Collibra Excellence Awards Winners:

Jo Coutuer, BNP Paribas Fortis – Distinguished Data Governance Leader of the Year

Brussels-based BNP Paribas Fortis Chief Data Officer, Jo Coutuer, was recognized for the work his data team has done to implement an integrated data program for clear governance of data related activities, advanced analytics, reports, data dictionaries, and ownership of data inside business and functions. Thanks to Coutuer’s leadership and his team’s efforts, BNP Paribas Fortis has put in place a strong data governance program that has defined hundreds of data definitions and data quality rules, improved business traceability, and supported the organization’s ongoing compliance efforts around BCBS239, GDPR, and other regulations, while at the same time generating value for its clients.

Dell Inc. -- Distinguished Data Governance Program of the Year

Following the merger between Dell and EMC in 2015, the Dell Business teams which includes Information Quality Governance Office (IQGO) and the Dell HR Data Management/Governance Office along with their IT Information Governance team have been collaborating towards ongoing Data Governance proficiency using the Collibra platform. While bringing these two large companies together, some immediate focus areas were in transitioning the governance programs from compliance, security and control to data democratizing, collaborating and transparency. Since Collibra is available to the relevant functions in Dell, users have the opportunity to review the company’s expansive data assets and learn how all of these assets relate to each other (managing of policies in a centralized application, understanding data quality rules & metrics and utilizing dashboard capabilities), resulting in increased awareness of data governance and driving towards a single data language.

2018 Collibra Excellence Awards Honorable Mentions:

Ramon Keulen, Philip Morris International -- Distinguished Data Governance Leader Honorable Mention

As part of its business objective to roll out smoke-free products as a better alternative for legal age consumers who would otherwise continue smoking, leading international tobacco company Philip Morris International saw the importance of changing the way the company managed and worked with data. PMI’s VP & Chief Analytics & Data Officer Ramon Keulen and his Enterprise Analytics & Data function implemented a data governance strategy that enables data-driven decision making.

Fifth Third Bank -- Distinguished Data Governance Program Honorable Mention

Cincinnati, OH-based Fifth Third Bank has identified data as a key strategic priority for the company and a critical driver for continuously improving the customer experience and adapting to a changing industry. To support this strategy, and in a very short period of time, the Bank has operationalized an innovative data governance program focused on making sure that data used to drive its risk, artificial intelligence, data science, new product development, and digital initiatives is reliable and easily discoverable. Partnering with Collibra, the Bank has created a self-service portal that brings together information across various data management disciplines (e.g. data quality, data lineage, etc.) into one single view, allowing data consumers to quickly find the right data, for the right purpose, at the right time, ultimately allowing valuable resources to spend more time driving innovation and less time finding and managing data.

Kim Wagie, Arizona Public Service Company -- Emerging Data Governance Leader

The Phoenix, AZ-based utility company (APS) is at the forefront of leading data management and governance. Using Collibra, APS has established a framework which is building data quality confidence so that the right people can access the right data at the right time for better decision-making.
