The regulatory environment of the utilities market combined with the complexity of its business and the significant increase in data as a result of innovations in smart meters and grids, created both the need and the challenge to report correctly on activities, transactions and assets.
A large European electricity distributor introduced information governance supported by the Collibra Data Governance Center to deal with this complexity and to ensure compliance. The information governance team needed a solution to centrally manage business definitions, taxonomies, rules, … with specific requirements around search, integration, retrieval and collaboration.
The organization identified and assigned roles, as well as their responsibilities. Documenting certain rules around data quality and using the workflow driven data stewarship actions for approvals and change management. This proactive process itself provided a structural path to better data quality.
