What does Collibra do ?

Collibra provides solutions that enable humans and information systems to really understand the information they are working with and communicate it efficiently. By focussing on the semantics (the content) instead of on the syntax (the format), Collibra empowers automatic integration and true business alignment.

How does it work ?

A good analogy can be found in the logistics sector. Shipping goods is done very efficiently. They are stored in boxes or in containers, and all different manners of transportation know how to handle these packages. A container can be put on a train, then on a cargo ship, then back on a truck, reaching its final destination efficiently. Information technology works similarly. Information is stored in different formats, that need to be transported to different systems and users. However, every company has hundreds of different formats for similar information. Communicating this information can thus only happen by manually creating custom "transporters" between two different formats.

Collibra is smarter. At Collibra, we have built a platform that users can use to document the semantics, the meaning of the existing information. This documentation can then be leveraged to automatically receive the information in the format it needs. Compare it to a machine that can automatically handle any kind of format as long as it has the documentation of that format.

We call this kind of documentation business semantics management, similar to business process management but for information instead of for processes.
